The Stiffness Tester utilizes a two directional pendulum-type weighing system to evaluate material stiffness, flexural strength, resiliency and elasticity properties. Force is applied to the lower end of the specimen by a pair of rollers attached to the driving disc. The resulting torque tilts the pendulum from its vertical position and a Taber Stiffness Unit reading (g.cm) is taken automatically when the pendulum mark aligns with the appropriate driving disc mark (71/2° or 15°). Predetermined sample length, deflection angle and rate of loading provide accurate and reproducible test results.

Taber Stiffness testers are available in two models. Both units offer
bi-directional pendulum type testing in a range from 0-10,000 Taber Stiffness Units. The Digital Stiffness Tester has an on-board computer that automatically calculates and records stiffness testing data. Stiffness readings are automatically converted to the appropriate user-selected stiffness range, eliminating the need to manually multiply results by a scaling factor. The unit also calculates average, standard deviation and high/low readings. With the accessory ports, data can be either printed or downloaded to a PC. Plus, up to 1,000 readings can be stored in non-volatile memory. In addition to the internal real-time clock and calendar, stored readings can be identified with an optional user-defined label. Using the 16 button keypad, operators have the ability to select the direction, deflection and number of cycles. The instrument also offers the ability to perform testing in auto or manual mode.
A high resolution optical encoder and a non-contacting photo sensor are incorporated to make this instrument fully automatic. The onboard computer calculates and records testing data (average; standard deviation; high/low; time; date; and a user-defined label), and converts stiffness readings to the appropriate user selected stiffness range. Test results are displayed on a 4 x 20 character display screen, and can be printed, stored or downloaded to a PC.
